    GRPA Podge Cast Special Event

    We’re teaming up with the guys from the excellent gaming show Podge Cast for a national celebration of gaming this month – just before the holiday rush gets too nuts. Accordingly, we’ll be holding some great one-shot games, GRPA-style, and also providing space for open board gaming all day long. Bring your favorites along or give one of our library games a try. We’ll be demoing some employee faves and hanging out until late. It’s going to be a rainy-day gaming party, fo’ shizzle.

Have a look below, and if you’d like to join us for any of these sessions, please select a game in which you’d like to participate and either call or write us back with your name and selection. All games are free and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you’ll be responded to immediately with your status in the game.

    Game #1 – Skeptics No More
    Hunter: The Vigil

    4-5 Players

    For years, the New Arkham Skeptical Society has investigated paranormal claims, and they’ve made a reputation in both the Scientific and the Occult communities as competent, dedicated investigators, doing their best to debunk, demystify, and explain away paranormal phenomenon as either newly discovered or poorly understood natural events. Still, for all their success, they’ve never been able to approach any of the really big paranormal claims. Until now. Thanks to the generous contributions of the Cheiron Group, in partnership with Pentex Inc., the New Arkham Skeptical Society is about to launch a new investigation – one aimed at either forever disproving the Vampire myth, or at the capture of a live vampire. As a member of the New Arkham Skeptical Society, prepare yourself to enter a World of Darkness…

    Game #2 – Fires in the Cold
    Midnight 2nd Ed. (D&D 3.5)

    3-6 Players

    Over a hundred years have past since the beginning of the final age. The fallen dark god Izrador met the forces of good on the plains of battle over a century ago, and the alliance of free races fell to the hordes of the Fallen One. But still, struggles continue. The humans still resist in cities otherwise subjugated, the dwarves still strike from their mountains, the nomadic halflings still resist capture. But it is the elves, striking from their great forest home, with their skills and their numbers and their magic, that force the darkness to beware the forces of good, even if only a little. But Izrador has not been idle. Word has spread through Erenland that the Dark One has created something to destroy the forests and scatter the elves once and for all, and even the Immortal Witch-Queen of Erethor may not be able to stop him this time. But like all weapons and devices and fell magics, this one too must have a weakness. The question is, will you brave the darkness, the dangers of a world where ghosts, monsters, foul sorcerers and evil clerics, the climate itself, and the suspicion of the very people you are trying to protect are all working against you? Will you risk your all in a desperate gamble to save the forest of Erethor, the home of the elves, and the life of this gods-forsaken land a little longer? Will you hold back the coming of Midnight?

    Midnight is a dark, gritty fantasy world, where darkness has already won the final war, evil reigns supreme, and sometimes even the good have to be bad to get by. In the grand struggle, you are a small spot of brightness in an otherwise very bleak world. Expect action, deception, doublecrossing, high RP content, and the very real risk of death and failure in your quest to spare the world of Midnight from a blow that would destroy good forever.

    Game #3 – Polaris: Chivalric Tragedy at the Utmost North

    “Once, there would have been no need for Knights, when the sky was dark and perfect, the starlight pure and cold, and the people without fear or flaw. But that time is over now, and the call for Knights has never been greater, for there is only one order, your order, the Knights Stellar, that stand between the remnants of the people and the demons that would devour them. There are others with you, other knights; for this is a battle, and not every battle fares well. The dooms of the Knights are plentiful. Some time will come when you succumb – to death on the field or treachery in the heart. Some summer will come when this battle will not be fought, when the Mistaken will rage without fear through the melting ice, when the fiery sun enchants no hearts with its gaudy colors as it rises like a wound in the spring sky, when there are no more knights on the field of battle. But this summer is not yet that summer; for your sword is sharp and your courage is bright. You are sworn against the sun, and the people still have a champion…” (from pg. 28 “What Really Matters”)

    Polaris is a game like no other game. There is no GM – each player helps facilitate the stories of the other players in defined ways. This game is aimed toward tragedy – you tell the stories of a dying people so long-gone that no mark remains that they ever were. These stories will be told using ritual phrases to initiate and resolve conflicts, and each player will be responsible for an equal share of creating the story together. This game is best for experienced role-players who thrive on character conflict and who that feel rolling dice gets in the way.

    Game #4 – Super Zombie Vampire Apocalypse
    Truth & Justice (PDQ)

    In 2021, the world had been gripped in the throes of wide-scale war for years. The United States, as a self-appointed worldwide police force, has been barely holding it all together, especially after the Atlanta incident. One bright light flickered on the horizon – the Magnificent 5. A top-secret U.S. program managed to create five honest-to-goodness Super Heroes – real comic book stuff. They jump into the fray with their energy blasts and super TK shields and after six months, the world settles down a bit. Then the Magnificent 5 mysteriously die. The official word is that the process used to create them was unstable. Unofficially, it was unstable enough to create a mutated air-born virus with a 75% mortality rate. Those who survive being infected are shockingly changed. By 2023, the fallout of this worldwide plague has left humanity on the brink of extinction. Only a mere 100,000 humans remain uninfected. Of those billions infected, most were turned into zombie-like creatures, constantly feeding on flesh for protein and sustenance. Others became dark, vampiric creatures who are the zombies’ masters, always shrouded in shadow. A very few, however, became the saviors of humanity, called the Supers. These individuals are endowed with awesome powers but little time. No infected Super has lasted more than two years before self-destructing. Today, one of the last humans is close to a cure and a plan – can the only heroes left in the world help her realize it before their time is up?
