    January GRPA

    It’s the first GRPA event of the new year! Click the link for the official lineup of role-playing games scheduled for it on Monday, January 31st. Have a look below, and if you’d like to join us for any of these sessions, please select a game in which you’d like to participate and either call or write us back with your name and selection. All games are free and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you’ll be responded to immediately with your status in the game.

    GRPA – Monday, January 31st 6-11pm

    Game #1 – Midwinter’s Eve
    GURPS

    Friends out on the town, enjoying the best that San Francisco has to offer. Young, heady, full of life and loving it. Just such people can sometimes be thrown into unexpected circumstances, for on the edges of our world lie other worlds. At the extremes of human emotion and the limits of human perception live worlds unknown to us. Unknown, that is, until the worlds collide. Then you shall be tested and driven to find your limits. What are you capable of doing? What are you capable of believing? Lets find out!

    This will be a GURPS adventure in the modern setting for four players. Please note that this adventure starts a two-session adventure which will finish on the following Monday, February 7th. Please be able and willing to attend both sessions if you sign up for this adventure.


    Game #2 – And a Star to Sail By

    Acolyte. This is a report on the strange happenings at the Navy Yards at Gunpoint, in the Hazeroth Abyss, Calixis Sector. Four days ago, the Rogue Trader ship Black Threnody came out of warp and docked at the Naval Yards above the mining world of Gunpoint. Routine maintenance reports transmitted to the station prior to docking have shown that the ship’s Gellar Field suffered a malfunction while the ship was en route from the Helican subsector, and was down for nearly the entire journey. This would normally mean that the ship would be lost with all hands, as the lack of a Gellar Field would leave the ship open to the horrors of the warp. However, despite a six-month journey entirely unprotected, the ship and crew appear to be unmolested and intact, free from warp influence. This is unprecedented, and the Ordo Hereticus Calixis suspects a heretic plot. Suspiciously, all logs from that time have been corrupted, seemingly due to mechanical failure. The ship has been held in quarantine, and you are to investigate the ship and crew, determine what has happened, if anything, and take steps to resolve any problems which present themselves within the purview of the Inquisition. You will meet your team on-site. Be careful. The ruinous powers and their agents are up to something.

    This is Dark Heresy. While it is true that in the Grim Darkness of the far future there is only war, not all wars are fought by armies on battlefields. In Dark Heresy, players take on the role of Inquisition Agents, those select few tasked with defending the Imperium from the threat of daemons, aliens, mutants, and heretics, by any means necessary. This game in particular is an investigation tale, with the players trying to figure out what really went on during the sixth-month voyage in the warp. The theme for the game is suspense, with bits of horror thrown in, to create a supernatural-Sci-Fi-whodunit adventure. Combat is possible, probable even, but is not the main thrust of the adventure. Mature players are appreciated, and new players are, as always, very welcome.



    Game #3 – Nightwatch at Cloudmount Pass
    Pathfinder

    North Seck Moutians, Eastern Norviyn, Torlon.
    You are a new recruit of the Gray Legion of the Torlon Empire known as The Graymen. You have been sent to Fort Goreck at the eastern edge of the Empire to guard its borders against the dark and savage races of the east. You have been assigned to the 7th Watchmen Cohort under the command of Pedes Primus Nio Yorlon Dornath, a veteran and stern no-nonsense leader. You have been told that you will be moving out tomorrow at first light to make for Cloudmount Pass. What you have heard is not encouraging. It is said that it is a cold, windswept place filled with ice, snow, stone, and mountain goats, and nobody seems to envy your posting there. Cloudmount is only six miles east of Fort Goreck, but it is some 3,000 feet higher up. Snow and ice-covered goat trails and rocky switchbacks are the only path. It is time to shoulder your pack, strap your shield to your arm, and take weapon in hand to see what dangers your first posting holds!

    This adventure is for the Pathfinder game system in my own campaign world of Githron. No special knowledge of the game or the world is needed to play. The world of Githron is 90% human (currently the human Empire of  Torlon rules most of the world) and magic is controlled with an iron hand. There is a brief synopsis of the world available here.     Game #4 – Winter’s Bone

    4 Players

    It was late at the Picaro Café, nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission district. The usual crowd of bohemians were still hanging on. The supernatural folk that were mixed in among the unusual and flamboyant crowd could be seen looking around uneasily, sensing that something was amiss. To the unwitting observer there really is no way to tell the difference between the two groups, especially in the city. Still, even the unaware folk in the place could tell there was something strange and otherworldly about the person that just walked in the front door. The figure strode across the café followed by a wave of warm air (unusual for the mid-December chill that hung over the city) and sat down at a table with three other people. “You’ve felt it, haven’t you?” said the stranger in a hushed tone. The one with the keen eyes nodded solemnly, the weary and overworked one looked around the room suspiciously, and the hairy one across the table simply leaned forward and asked in a gravely voice, “Well, so what the hell are we going to do about it?”

    This session starts a two-session adventure, culminating with another session on the following Monday, February 7th. People signing up should be able to make both sessions.
