    August GRPA

    August 22, 2011

This month, we have a very well-populated schedule for GRPA, with lots of variation in the theme and styles of games being presented. This line-up, combined with the fantastic RPG releases we have seen over the last few weeks, indicates a lively and energetic roleplaying community at Gamescape. There’s never been a better time to be a part of it!

To further help facilitate this burgeoning community is the announcement that Gamescape’s OpenRPG Nights have been expanded to encompass all Monday Nights (with the exception of the last one dedicated to GRPA). You can now bring your private games and campaign groups to the store and participate in weekly gatherings to enjoy our space and the company of others as you fell monsters and seek adventure. Our hope is that Gamescape’s Monday RPG Night becomes a magnet that helps to draw players and GMs together for greater and grander games.

Click the link for the official lineup of role-playing games scheduled for it on Monday, August 29th. Have a look below, and if you’d like to join us for any of these sessions, please select a game in which you’d like to participate and either call or write us back with your name and selection. All games are free and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you’ll be responded to immediately with your status in the game.

    What’s GRPA? Find out here!

    GRPA – Monday, August 29th 6-11pm

Game #1 – Before the Dawn
    Earthdawn 3.0
    4-5 Players
    GM – Paul Wise

It has been hundreds of years since the invasion of the Horrors swept aside the old world in a hurricane of fire. Since then, the underground kaers have become the last refuges of the Namegiver races of Barsaive. Beneath the shelter of mighty spells and a mountain of stone, generations have lived and died without knowledge of the outside world, waiting for falling mana levels to drive the Horrors back into slumber. You have lived your entire life behind the protection of wards and walls. But life in the kaer is about to change…

Earthdawn is a classic game of post-apocalptic fantasy in a world that is just now reawakening after centuries of scourge by other-dimensional Horrors. Sequestered in massive stone city-barrows far beneath the ground, Human, Ork, Elf, Dwarf, Troll, and others learned how to coexist simply because there was no other option. Now that the Earth’s natural balance is slowly being restored, it is time for true heroes to emerge from their vaults to find the traces of their lost histories – and create new histories along the way!

    Game #2 – Dallas 1963
    Fiasco
    3-4 Players
    GM – Dale Horstman

The President is coming, although he really shouldn’t.

The city is on edge, and all the players are busy playing – John Birch patriots and pro-Castro lunatics, Teamsters, mobsters and assorted other entrepreneurs in the burgeoning fields of sex, death, and race war. A lot of very serious people are doing a lot of very serious things. A smart guy can really get ahead in times like these, looking for the angles, making connections. And you know what? Guys like that have more important things to do than worry about the President speaking at a Dallas Trade Mart luncheon.

Fiasco is an intense, GM-less story- and character-driven roleplaying game. It is almost as much improv theater as it is an RPG. The themes explored in the game can often be adult-oriented, so only over-18s for sign-ups, please.

Game #3 – The Devil We Know, Pt. 3: Murder on the Silken Caravan
    Pathfinder Society
    4-6 Players
    GM – Joshua Archer

Volunteers are needed to escort the body of a deceased venture-captain across the parched Qadiran desert to Katheer. The Silken Caravan offers passage, hauling exotic treasures across the perilous sea of sands. You’ll brave bandits, spies, and unwelcome mourners hell-bent on paying respects to your dead companion. Worse still, the caravan’s mistress, a satin-swathed Qadiran princess, has designs of her own on you and your cargo.

This product is a Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st to 3rd level characters (Tiers: 1–3). Players may build characters according to the Pathfinder Society Play rules. I will have some ready-built characters for those who do not have their own. I will also assist those wishing to create PFS characters via email or on the forum. Find out more about Pathfinder Society here.

Game #4 – No Strings Attached
    Victoriana 2nd Ed.
    4-5 Players
    GM – Ben Tremaine

Under the cloak of a starless night, a young girl walks alone through the empty streets of London. A single beam of moonlight peers through the clouds and reveals a treasure once hidden within the darkness. She scoops her prize up out of the gutter, glancing at it for just a moment before clutching it in both hands and rushing home. Finally reaching the orphanage, she sneaks in with care, not to wake anyone. Lighting a candle, she makes her way to the corner of the room, fearing that if someone were to gaze upon her wealth they might try to steal it away. The grayish blue gem gleams hypnotically as the candlelight shimmering through it dances along each facet of the colossal diamond. The candle flickers out and just like that the spell is broken. The girl puts on the necklace, and makes her way to bed. Just before crossing over to the world of dreams, a faint singing starts from outside the window. As the song continues, the darkness slowly consumes the girl, leaving nothing but an empty bed.

Victoriana is a version of the Victorian world in 1866 with a steampunk twist, as well as fantastical elements such as ogres, elves, and magic. This game will see the players take on the role of gutter-runners: low class men and women who help themselves and others because no one else can, as they work to find a murderer preying on the weak and downtrodden – a murderer who may be from the highest part of London society. They will use magic, science, steam, and a fair amount of low cunning and high adventure in order to accomplish their goals, if they’re up to the task. The game’s system is very simple and requires no prior experience, running entirely on a simple d6 mechanic. The game involves mature themes as a matter of course, so please, no one under the age of 15. But if you’re up for a challenge in a fantastic world with an excellent system, come, bring your personality and your imagination and let the wicked, wonderful world of Victoriana do the rest.
