    Free RPG Day 2013

    June 7, 2013

    freerpg2013

The schedule is here! For the seventh year running, summer heralds one of our favorite days of the year: Free RPG Day. If you’ve ever been a part of our GRPA gaming events, you have a good idea of what Free RPG Day will be like. The list of games we’re hosting are below, and all you have to do is sign up. No previous experience is necessary, so it’s a great chance to try out a system you’ve been eyeing for a while. Once you’ve got a confirmed spot, show up on June 15th, take home some of the free product, and have a blast with the other gamers who will be here!

The list of sponsors this year is impressive, including Catalyst Game Labs, White Wolf Publishing, Fantasy Flight, Goodman Games, Paizo, and a bunch more. Each of these publishers has created a special gaming book or item for the event, and they’re all free for you to enjoy.

Lastly, we’re going to have a ton of great prizes to hand out in a FREE raffle open to all those who participate in the event. Make sure to get your ticket from your GM before things get going. Trust us: you won’t be sorry you did.

Below is the official lineup of role-playing games scheduled for this year’s Free RPG Day on Saturday, June 15th. Have a look below, and if you’d like to join us for any of these sessions, please select a game in which you’d like to participate and either call or write us back with your name and selection. All games are free and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you’ll be responded to immediately with your status in the game.

    Free RPG Day 2013 – Saturday, June 15th 11-6pm

Game #1 – Stories of the Endless City
    Dungeon World

    3-5 Players
    GM – Dale Horstman

The infinite city of Dis stretches farther than the mind can imagine. It touches every plane of the multiverse — even engulfing some and incorporating them into its ever changing landscape. From the beautiful crystal spires of Colonna stretching ever skyward, to the broken obsidian canyons of the Desert of Shadows. It’s stories and struggles are infinite. Come join us in the gallery for the telling of one such tale…

    Note to the players:
We’ll be creating characters, world elements and the adventure at the table.

    About Dungeon World:
Combining high-action dungeon crawling with cutting-edge rules, Dungeon World is a roleplaying game of fantasy adventure. You and your friends will explore a land of magic and danger in the roles of adventurers searching for fame, gold, and glory. Dungeon World’s rules are easy to learn and always drive the action forward in unexpected ways.  A missed roll is never a dead end—failure introduces new complexities and complications.  Life as an adventurer is hard and dangerous but it’s never boring!

Game #2 – The World Above
    Engine Heart
    2-4 Players
    GM – Jesse Truscott

    It dreamed.

It dreamed in that way that only a thing like it could, feeling a longing that tore at its processing power and consumed its probability forks. It was helpless and adrift, a child separated from its parent, desperate and frantic. Somewhere up there, beyond the diffuse sky radiation that obscured its real home, there were brothers and sisters waiting for it.

It was not made for the Earth. They were celestial beings, built for the ether. Magnetic treads, gas jets, all the trappings that belied its failure to ascend along with its siblings were there, but in this heavy atmosphere, with nonferrous dirt underneath it, they were useless, a burden, a shameful badge of dishonor.

Somewhere up there, they were waiting for it. Unit 39 was sure of it.

    About Engine Heart:
Engine Heart is a game in which the players are all small service robots, in a world where the humans that built them have disappeared without a trace, presenting new obstacles that you were never designed to handle. Imagine something between “The Brave Little Toaster” and “WALL-E”. Creating a robot is a blast and will be included in the start of the session, but I’ll also have some pre-constructed robots available for those who’d like them.

Game #3 – Smugglers on the Run
Star Wars – Edge of the Empire

    2-4 Players
    GM – Mike O’Brien

It is a time of civil war. Throughout the galaxy, the outmanned and outgunned REBEL ALLIANCE battles the GALACTIC EMPIRE. The Rebels have scored their first victory, destroying the fearsome DEATH STAR. Despite the recent upheaval, the Galactic Civil War does not dominate the galaxy.

In the remote Outer Rim Territories, a band of smugglers and fringers work to escape debts owed to the ruthless gangster, Sinasu the Hutt. Summoned to the planet Tatooine, they are given a chance to loosen his grip by flying an unusual smuggling run. First, they must withstand the darkening underworld and the might of the Empire…

About Star Wars – Edge of the Empire:
Edge of the Empire is a fast-paced storytelling experience that beautifully imagines the grit and suspense of Star Wars. Fantasy Flight’s newest role-playing game sets itself sometime after the events of A New Hope and puts characters directly in the pilot’s seat, letting each player drive the story as they see fit. Using its own custom set of dice, Edge of the Empire allows for infinite possibilities as the results are not based on numbers, but on symbols. This unique approach makes for an amazingly comprehensive and easy-to-learn system that is great for gamers of all experience levels.

Game #4 – We Be Goblins Too!
    Pathfinder
12 Players (Two Tables of 6 each)
    GM – PFS Game Master

The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh were defeated by human adventurers and all that remains of the tribe are its four goblin “heroes”. Homeless and bored, they left their swampy homeland to join a neighboring goblin tribe. The good news: the new tribe is willing to take them in. The better news: they want one of them to be their chieftain. The bad news: before joining, they will all have to endure a series of dangerous and humiliating tests. The worse news: recent chieftains have had really short lifespans – they are being killed by the pet fire-breathing boar of a local ogre who wants their land. So, what is to be the fate of these four “heroes”?

    About We Be Goblins Too!:
We Be Goblins Too! is an adventure for four 3rd-level characters in which the PCs play a horde of malicious and murderous goblins, written for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world’s oldest RPG. The adventure takes place near the coastal town of Sandpoint in the Pathfinder campaign setting, and serves as a sequel to the We Be Goblins! adventure that debuted at last year’s Free RPG Day.

Game #5 – We Be Goblins!
    Pathfinder
    4 Players
    GM – PFS Game Master

The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh have stumbled upon a great treasure: fireworks! Yet unfortunately for them, the tribe member responsible for the discovery has already been exiled for the abhorrent crime of writing (which every goblin knows steals words from your head). To remedy this situation, the Licktoads’ leader, His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad, has declared that the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve the rest of the fireworks from a derelict ship stranded in the marsh. In order to prove themselves as the Licktoads’ bravest goblins, the PCs must complete a series of dangerous dares, from swallowing bull slugs and braving the dreaded Earbiter to dancing with Squealy Nord himself. Yet even once they’ve proven their mettle, the adventure is just beginning. For the ship in question is far from uninhabited, and Vorka the cannibal goblin would like nothing better than a few tasty visitors…

    About We Be Goblins!:
We Be Goblins! is an adventure for 1st-level characters in which the PCs play a horde of malicious and murderous goblins, written for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world’s oldest RPG. The adventure takes place outside the town of Sandpoint in the Pathfinder campaign setting, but can easily be adapted for any campaign world.

Game #6 – Legends Never Die
    Vigilante RPG
    4-6 Players
    GM – Ashton Saylor

    About Vigilante RPG:
Vigilante is a brand new RPG in the beta stage of development. It uses an original, experimental system, which places the emphasis on vanilla humans in a modern, urban setting. In some instances of the game, supernatural elements may be included, but they are not required, allowing the game to include real mystery not just for the characters, but for the players.
