Our Gotta-Play series is a weekly spotlight on particular games that we think are exceptionally fun and that we believe everybody should try, whether brand-new or old classic. On most every Saturday afternoon we’ll have a game laid out on one of our front tables, and we’ll be offering free demonstrations and a chance for you to give it a shot.
If you try it and find that you simply must have a copy, we’ll be offering a 10% discount on that title through the demo period. So it’s great way to build up your library of the very best games we have in the store – while saving a few bucks along the way!
Each month’s games will be announced at the beginning of the month, so make sure you check the calendar for all the latest info.
February’s Gotta-Play sessions are described below, and will be running on Saturday afternoons through the month @ 1-4 pm.

Whether or not you are familiar with the layout of the United States, you will see America in a whole new light after playing this dice game. Inventor Hisashi Hayashi crafted a unique system that deftly combines visual strategy and planning with a dash of dice-rolling luck. You’ll need to think through each number placement carefully as you fill in your map. You’ll also need to wisely utilize the three special powers (color change, guard, dupe) if you want to get a perfect score. Speaking of which, we’ve played dozens of times and have yet to get a score below 5 Xs. See if you can outdo us and send us a Tweet with your complete map!

Anomia is simple. Players flip cards in turn until the symbols on two players’ cards match. Matching players must race to give an example of the category on their opponent’s card. Whoever blurts out a correct answer first wins their opponent’s card, and drawing continues. Sounds easy, right? Think again! Wild cards create unexpected matches, and face-offs can cascade when you lose a card, revealing a new match. Pay attention – it could be your turn at any time!

The latest and greatest version of the card game with ever changing rules! Easier than ever with just the four classic card types that fans the world over have come to know and love. It starts out simple: draw one card and play one card – but New Rule cards quickly make things chaotic. Even the object of the game will often change as you play, as players swap out one Goal card for another. Can you achieve World Peace before someone changes the goal to Bread and Chocolate?
