Kublacon is just over the horizon, and with it, the infamous Golden Gargant Warhammer 40K tournament! Want to play but not going to the convention this year? Want to test your army list in preparation for the big Kubla event? We’ve got you covered!

On Saturday, May 18th, Gamescape will be hosting a tournament with the very same format here in the store, run by the Golden Gargant Tournament Organizer himself, Edwin Siegel. Our “Golden Gretchin” tourney will also be using the Bay Area Open rules and is set at 1500 points over three rounds, with standard Force Organization. Many cried when Rackham died, but their flagship miniatures game, Confrontation, has recently been dug up with an awesome new edition on the horizon. We’ll be hosting a Confrontation 3.5 tournament at the store on Sunday, May 12th, 12-5pm, which is Mother’s Day. Don’t worry; you can bring her along. The event will run three rounds using the newest Confrontation rules, modified by the UKCORD tournament rules. Grab 400 points worth of your favorite faction (and their allies, if you like) and spend the day playing one of the best skirmish games to ever hit the table.

The Day The World Died is an original scenario for Vigilante, which tracks the lives of seven people who all happen to be in the same cafe in downtown Seattle when the end of the world begins. About Vigilante RPG:
Vigilante is a brand new RPG in the beta stage of development. It uses an original, experimental system, which places the emphasis on vanilla humans in a modern, urban setting. In some instances of the game, supernatural elements may be included, but they are not required, allowing the game to include real mystery not just for the characters, but for the players.

It is a period of unrest and opportunity in the galaxy. The Galactic Empire struggles to maintain control in the midst of civil war. Meanwhile, scoundrels and smugglers, explorers and expatriates, and fringers of all types scramble for a living on the edges of galactic civilization. It is a hard life, but these renegades have more freedom and opportunity that any citizen of the Core Worlds.

On the desert world of Tatooine, a few such renegades have run afoul of a local crime boss, Teemo the Hutt. Trapped in the tiny spaceport of Mos Shuuta, the renegades have no choice but to steal a starship and flee Teemo’s forces. Fortunately, a suitable starship has recently docked at the landing bay; a freighter called the “Krayt Fang”, captained by a Trandoshan slaver named Trex. As they flee through the suns-baked street, the renegades duck into the local cantina to hide from their pursuers. This is where we find our so-called heroes…

In addition to the gaming, we encourage (but not require) people to come dressed as your favorite character from any era of the SW saga, and there will definitely be a prize for the best costume. We’ll also be providing some snacks delivered directly from a galaxy far, far away, complete with blue milk to wash it all down – but participants are still welcome to bring their own “bantha bait.”

And to enhance the atmosphere, we’ll be presenting a triple feature of the original trilogy on our projection screen, starting with the epic Episode IV: A New Hope and running straight through to the thrilling finale of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi – because those are the only films that matter, of course.

Starting at noon and going late, this International Star Wars Day is set to be chock full of good humor, great company and enough puns to choke a tauntaun. So come and let your inner Jedi show – we promise it’s NOT a trap!

MTG Dragon’s Maze Pre-Release Tournament

Continuing our very fun and successful series of Magic events, Gamescape is pleased to be hosting a double-dip of Magic: The Gathering Pre-Release spectaculars! Dragon’s Maze releases on Friday, May 3rd. Our Pre-Releases will take place one week before then on Saturday and Sunday, April 27th and 28th at 12:00 noon. This will be a Sealed Deck Tournament using each player’s choice of guild from either Return to Ravnica or Gatecrash as well as a secret ally that will share a color with your selected guild.

If you’re interested in attending either or both events, we ask that you please sign-up ahead of time, as we have limited space for each. You can do this in a number of ways: either by calling the store, sending an e-mail, or by dropping into the store in-person. Please include your DCI number when you register. There are 66 spaces available on each day, so be sure to reserve yours soon! We ask also that you please arrive to the tournament before 12:00 noon in order to pay your entry fee of $30.00. Included in your entry will be a MTG Dragon’s Maze Guild Pre-Release pack which contains four Dragon’s Maze booster packs and two guild-specific packs, one for your chosen guild and one to support your secret ally.  Also, each attendee will receive a limited edition Pre-Release Foil Promo Card just for participating.

Important note: you will need to let us know your preferred choice of Guild when you sign up, as specific tournament Guild Packs will be distributed accordingly in order of your position on the registration list, and only while supplies last. In other words, you’ll have a much better choice of Guild if you sign up early!

Both Sealed Tournaments will consist of one flight of entrants with the goal of the event to be completed by 6pm. Prizes will be given in the form of MTG Dragon’s Maze booster packs, promo cards, and some other nifty prize support that we have in the store. We regret that we will not be admitting players after 12:00pm SHARP, provided that there is space left on the day of the event. Please arrive as early as you can.

MTG Dragon’s Maze Release Tournament – Friday, May 3rd @ 6pm

If you’re not able to make either of the Pre-Release events, we will be holding another big Tournament on the day that MTG Dragon’s Maze releases. If you’re interested in attending, please arrive before 6:00pm to sign in. The entrance fee for the event is $30.00, which guarantees each player six MTG Dragon’s Maze booster packs for deck-building, as well as the potential for additional prize support based on final placement. This Sealed Deck Tournament will consist of four rounds of swiss pairing, with the goal of the tournament to be done by 10:30pm. Please sign up early to ensure a spot in the tournament.

The Carthians fight to maintain their rule of the city, while also trying to cover up their devil’s bargain. VII moves to finish the job of destroying the kindred of San Francisco and two doomed lovers meet in the wreckage. Can they be true to each other without betraying their friends?

Vampire: The Requiem is a role-playing system that uses a D10 system to tell a quick and memorable story. In this game, each player will portray one of the six principle characters in a story of doomed love and blood obligation. Players will be taking the lead in determining the outcome of this tale. Guess what? You guessed wrong. Four men with stiff uniforms and square jaws have clarified your error by “offering” you a trip to Hawaii to help research and solve an exceptional personnel issue at a U.S. Army installation and two nearby villages. Since the alternative they offered hinted at time in a secret military mental hospital, you’ve already decided to start packing for Hawaii.

About Dread RPG:
Dread+CoC features a scenario and milieu from classic Call of Cthulhu: investigator characters who wish to unwrap secrets and find clues to Lovecraftian horrors … and not go insane or die while fending off evils as best they can (which is not very often).

However, their character background will be supplemented with a Dread-style questionnaire, to be filled out at the start of the game, which will establish deeper motivations, quirks, and character relationships than typical CoC characters.

Even better, conflict resolution is via Dread’s Jenga tower mechanic. Whether it’s player-vs-player or player-vs world, the harder you’re trying to do something or fight someone, the more pieces you have to pull from the tower. If the tower falls, you are dead or stark raving mad. As long as the tower stays up, you can stay alive and somewhat sane. But what’s the fun in that, right?

Earlier this year, Fantasy Flight began a new program of Game Night Kits designed to make your favorite games even better for Organized Play. We’re making these kits available to our in-store players, starting with The Lord of the Rings LCG.

Starting on April 18th during our regular Board Game Night (6-11pm), we’ll be featuring The Lord of the Rings LCG with its Season One Game Night Kit’s Nightmare Adventures Decks. These increase the difficulty of the regular adventures, ensuring that the challenges are epic! Bring your best character decks to team up with other players and try your luck. We’ll be keeping track of the wins and losses of players over the course of the season. Then at the end, we’ll give out the Nightmare Decks to the players with the best records. There are three Nightmare Decks that we’ll run until the next season of the LotR Game Night Kit becomes available.

Lord of the Rings LCG is one of the most popular LCG games that Fantasy Flight has produced with a totally unique character deck construction and cooperative play. If you’ve not yet tried it, we’ll have demo decks available to teach you how to play.

But the fun doesn’t stop there: as the program develops, we’ll expand our FFG organized play with other kits like Netrunner, Star Wars, and A Game of Thrones LCG. Let us know what you want to see and we’ll order a kit for you – and you’re welcome to get involved behind the scenes by helping to organize, teach, and run these great Game Night Kit events!

Lord of the Rings LCG Game Night Kit Season 1

The Eye of Sauron gazes upon us!

As winter finally draws to an end, desperation is in the air. Drought came the year before and the longest winter in memory means thousands stand at the doorstep of starvation. In the South, an ancient King awakens and senses the time for conquest is ripe. In the North, the Warlords of Chaos muster to march into the Kingdoms of Man. This spring holds no joy, for this spring is The Season of War.

Starting Sunday April 7th, the ground of the Old World will shake as armies clash under the leadership of fledgling commanders – recently-commissioned army generals and warlords seeking to obtain new land, treasures, and glory in the name of their Emperor, King, or perhaps just their own selfish desires. We have lovingly modified a set of campaign rules in order to create a fun series of linked Warhammer Fantasy sessions that will occur twice per month in the store. Any player who wishes to join the fray will receive five territory cards. Your goal: obtain a total of ten territories while your General gains experience (or grievous wounds) along the way. Depending on how well your General has fared in battle, both the good or bad results carry over from game to game. The road to being a Warlord is never easy!

Make sure to check out the full rules and read up if you’re interested in joining in. Note that you don’t have to show up for the first event to be part of the fun. In fact, the campaign rules are set up so that participants can engage in battle anytime they want during the life of the campaign, though games must occur in-store to be counted as part of the proceedings. Feel free to use our forums as a virtual challenging ground. And of course we’ll still be dedicating the tables to the all of the Warlords every other Sunday through the middle of May, when we expect things to wind down – with a clear champion prevailing!

On March 30th, 2013, Geek & Sundry is asking all of its fans to go to their friendly local game store, community center, or host an event at home and play more games. International TableTop Day is a reminder to spend more time and strengthen the bonds with the people who matter most, our friends and family, by playing games together. Tabletop gaming promotes many positive social and cognitive benefits like increased communication, team work, planning, and is an excellent stress-relieving activity for all ages.

Of course, we’re taking this one to heart at Gamescape and joining in the fun with a huge day of prizes, demos, and, of course, GAMES!

From 10am until 11pm, we’ll be gathered around the tables playing, with maybe a few short breaks for sustenance here and there. Participants are very welcome to bring food and drink so you don’t have to leave the fun even for a minute. Check the schedule of planned demos and events below, but the main point is showing up and playing, even if it’s just a handful of pickup games or something special that you’ve brought along.

We’ll be giving special attention to the titles featured on the first season of Wil Wheaton and Boyan Radakovich‘s TableTop, but our entire game library will be open for use and as long as we’ve got the table space, anything goes…and we’ve got A LOT of space!
