Gamescape Recommends: Zoom/Social Distancing Games

Stumblewood, Gigamic, 2018 — front cover (image provided by the publisher)

Stumblewood

Gigamic, $12.99
2-6 players, Ages 10+

Core Gameplay: Be the first to find the correct path through the forest and escape unscathed! But without a map, you'll have to memorize the path...including how to avoid each trap along the way! You have 30 seconds to get as far as you can, then remember everything you learned while the other players navigate their own twisted trail.

Zoom Tweaks: Draw a simple compass icon and place it next to the board to indicate direction. Then, rather than physically indicating their choices, have players give verbal directions such as, "North" to navigate. Only one copy of the game is needed and instead of switching roles every round, the player who owns the game will be the navigator for all other players.

Rosetta

Story Machine Games, $23.99
2-5 players, Ages 8+

Core Gameplay: This creative code-breaking game will have players inventing and interpreting the writings of a lost civilization. With an illustration to inspire them, the 'author' assigns a definition to a randomly selected symbol. Everyone must then work together to interpret the clues and correctly decipher the glyph's hidden meaning!

Zoom Tweaks: Very few tweaks necessary! Usually guesses are written on a card in English, then translated by the author into the mystery language as their next clue. To play over zoom the investigators can speak their guess instead, and the author will write the guess in both English and the mystery language. If a player wants to be the author who doesn't own the physical copy of the game, they can write everything with paper and pencil rather than using the dry-erase cards included in the game.

Welcome to Your Perfect Home

Deep Water Games, $24.95
1+ players, Ages 10+

Core Gameplay: Design the perfect neighborhood in this flip & write bingo-style game! Choose from three houses every round to add to your budding neighborhood, but plan carefully or you could be in hot water with the building commission! Try to fill your block completely to score maximum points but the more houses you add, the more difficult it is to squeeze new ones in! This is one of our all-time favorite puzzle games and bonus; it's got a great solo-challenge mode as well.

Zoom Tweaks: No tweaks necessary! One player needs the game but everyone else just needs a score sheet and you're ready to play!

Patchwork Doodle

Lookout Games, $19.99
1-6+ players, Ages 8+

Core Gameplay: This tiny package packs a big punch! Every turn will bring a new crazy shape to draw onto your doodle board. Eliminate all the empty spaces to score big! This quick and captivating game will engage your creativity as you color your way to victory!

Zoom Tweaks: Have only one player (whoever owns the physical copy of the game) do all the dice rolling. All the other players need is a score sheet and some pens, pencils or markers. The great thing about this score sheet? It's just a simple grid! Players can draw their own.

Core Gameplay: You have been presented with a series of Holmesian mystery to solve, and it is up to you to trace the threads of evidence through the byways and mansions of nineteenth century London. You will interview suspects, search the newspapers for clues, and put together the facts to reach a solution. With no dice, no cards and no luck, this is no traditional board game but rather a challenge to your intuition, reasoning and deductive abilities.

Zoom Tweaks: Whoever owns the game will act as the game master, reading out all clues and interviews to the rest of the intrepid sleuths. Everyone will participate in the speculation and deduction to solve the mystery as a team.

Just One

Repos, $24.99
3-7 players, Ages 8+

Core Gameplay: Just One is the award-winning cooperative party game in which you try to correctly guess as many mystery words as possible! Every turn, each player gives the guesser just one clue—choose the best word to help your teammate, but get creative, because if your clue matches a teammates, they'll cancel out!

Zoom Tweaks: Each round, the guesser must cover their camera while everyone else looks at the word and writes out their clue. When the clues are ready, they'll uncover they're camera and guess. Only one player needs the game, the rest can play with pen and paper.

There are lots of other great Zoom-able games out there. These are some of our favorites but we're happy to show you more! Stop by or give us a call to hear about other great options!
